When Standard Interventions Aren’t Enough—My Approach Helps Unlock Pupil Potential

In many schools, “interventions” for children with additional needs are often little more than supervised time away from the classroom. With high demands placed on teachers and TAs, interventions sometimes become a form of babysitting, rather than effective support. I’ve seen children struggling to keep up in mainstream classrooms, only to be taken out and left to colour in the office of a senior leader (SLT). It’s a way to manage behaviour and keep the class safe, but it’s not the solution these children need.

This is where Calm Learning steps in. I provide specialist 1:1 teaching that goes beyond simple management of behaviour. My tailored sessions target the child’s specific needs, helping them progress academically and personally. Through alternative provision, I can work with children who are unable to thrive in the mainstream classroom, offering a space where they can feel supported, heard, and ready to learn.

When schools are stretched, it’s hard to give every child the individualised attention they need. SLT members shouldn’t have to double up as teaching assistants for children who need extra help. I free up school leaders to focus on their core responsibilities, while making sure no child is left behind.

My 1:1 approach is designed to unlock each child’s potential, creating a path back to learning and inclusion. Every child deserves the chance to succeed, and I’m here to ensure that happens.

If this sounds like the kind of support your school could benefit from, let’s have a conversation. At Calm Learning, I’m dedicated to helping schools meet their SEND and inclusion goals through effective alternative provision. Contact me today to find out more.
